Jabber Servers
CAcert does not maintain a Jabber server (as yet). Some known servers:
- jabber.ccc.de
- jabber.fsinf.at
- jabber.org
- swissjabber.ch / swissjabber.org / swissjabber.de (Server location: Switzerland (no data retention))
Rooms
Let me (writes Mati) take you up on that. The room is created, its JID is:
cacert@conference.fsinf.at You need a Jabber-Account on *any* open server ( etc.).
Jabber Clients
Many clients support Jabber:
Pidgin[1] is the default in most Linux installations and is also available for Windows. Use Accounts->Add (choose protocol "XMPP") to add an account ("Resource" can be anything). Then choose Buddies->"Join a Chat" to join the room cacert at server jabber.fsinf.at (no password required!).
For Adium (a good IM client for Mac OS X) just select File -> Join group chat... -> Roomname: cacert, Server conference.fsinf.at -> Join.
Some other clients that support Jabber are
- Windows: Miranda, Trillian Pro,
- Mac: iChat (no account creation), Adium
- Linux: Gajim, Psi, Kopete, centerIM, mcabber...
Hundreds of Jabber Clients exist. To make your experience a bit easier, we have a small list with a few popular clients:

Included in OS X. Cannot register accounts, you need another client for that. |
Note: I've excluded the SSL column because most clients use TLS/SSL by default anyway. If a client doesn't use TLS/SSL by default or doesn't support it, please note it in the "Notes" column (perhaps in bold?)
